Waiting for Diablo III

I wrote earlier that I tried Diablo III open beta. I decided to buy the game. Now I have "long" wait before the game is published. In the meantime I have been playing DayZ mod. It is the best Zombie survival game that I have played so far! There are still many bugs but it's been good fun so far.

I am not yet sure what class I will first choose for  Diablo III. I tried every class during open beta. All of the classes were fun in their own way. Most likely I will start with Barbarian. Diablo is hack&slash game and Barbarian is made for that. Release date for Diablo III is May 15, 2012.

Day Z - Zombie invasion

Try to survive in an environment filled with Zombies and human players (many of them hostile). This is new mod called DayZ for Arma 2: Combined Operations. Everyone can kill you and when you die you will lose everything and you will need to start over.

Did I mention that when you start you don't have map, compass or even watch. You get a pistol and tap on the back. This is Zombie survival at its best!

Here is an instruction how to play this mod (Steam version).

1. You will need install ARMA 2 and ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead (and buy if you don't have them). ARMA II: Combined Operations includes both of the games.
2. Start both games once to make sure that everything is working (when the menu appears you can close the game,)
3. Make a folder named "@DayZ" in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead. Make a folder called Addons inside @DayZ folder.
4. Dowload all of the DayZ Mod files into the folder you just created. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\@DayZ\Addons\. Don't download the files in "old/" folder
5. Extract the files you downloaded. Use for example free 7-Zip. Use "Extract here" option.
8. Go to Steam and right click, properties, set launch options on ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead
9. Insert "-mod=@dayz -nosplash" and click OK
10. Open Operation Arrowhead and select to "Launch ARMA 2: Combined Operations"

If everything went ok you should see "@dayz" under "ArmA 2" on the right side of the screen. Select multiplayer and find the DayZ servers. Enjoy, be scared, frustrated, mad, happy and/or terrified!

P.S. It takes sometimes long to get into a server. The mod is in alpha state so except bugs and cliches.

If you got error message: "You cannot play/edit this mission; it is dependent on downloadable content that has been deleted." there is a problem with the installation. Make sure that the files were extracted to folder X:\Folder you installed Steam\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\@DayZ\Addons\

Diablo III Beta

This weekend there is a change to try Diablo III before the game is officially launched. The name Beta seems to be correct in this case. I have had troubles getting into the game.

First I downloaded the game client from Diablo III internet page and started the install.

After the game was downloaded I launched the game and when I tried to login to Battle.net I got following error message:
The servers  are busy at this time. Please try again later. (Error 37)

After trying to log about 10 times I gave up and tried to use the Europe server. This seemed to be bad idea because I got error message that  said: Unable to connect to the service or the connection was interrupted. (Error 3003)

After that I tried to login again to US server without success. I will keep trying and update what happens.

Beta is available here: Diablo III open Beta

Edit:

I was able to join after about 15 join attempts. It seems that the servers are busy at the moment. I have mixed feelings about the game. The game play was little confusing at the beginning. The graphics are more candy like compared to Diablo II and it's sometimes hard to see what is happening because of the effects.

I think I will try to play the beta a little more if I have time. The game was good enough and I most likely will buy the retail version for myself.

The Expendables 2

Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Jason Statham. How does it feel to see those names together? Well, that is the plot of coming movie The Expendables 2. There will be some other plot but lets face it, this will be an action movie on steroids! I didn't mean that literally (or maybe I did). Anyway, there will be a lot of action, shooting and one-liners. What else do you need from a good action movie?

Ok, here is the real plot for the movie:
Mr. Church reunites the Expendables for what should be an easy paycheck, but when one of their men is murdered on the job, their quest for revenge puts them deep in enemy territory and up against an unexpected threat.

The Expendables 2 will be in theaters on August 17, 2012. You can see the trailers from: http://theexpendables2film.com/

Prometheus coming on June 8, 2012

There is a new movie called Prometheus coming from Ridley Scott the director of Alien, Blade Runner and Gladiator. The release date is expected to be June 8, 2012.

In the late 21st century, a star map is discovered within the imagery of Aztec, Mesopotamian and Magdalenian cultures. The plot follows the crew of the spaceship Prometheus in the year 2085, as they explore an advanced alien civilization in search of the origins of humanity. Exploring the advanced civilization of an extraterrestrial race, they soon face a threat to humanity's very existence.

Here is a link to a trailer on YouTube. I am really waiting for this movie. Sci-Fi is one of my favorite movie genres and the plot seems promising. Scott has also directed impressive movies before. Lets see what the movie will be like.

Nokia Lumia 900 - $100 rebate

I wrote earlier about Nokia Lumia 900 launch in the US.

Nokia is now offering $100 rebate because they identified a software issue with Lumia 900 memory management. In short, a memory management issue was discovered that could, in some cases, lead to loss of data connectivity. IThey say that the issue is purely in the phone software, and is not related to either phone hardware or the network itself. They have identified the issue, and have developed a solution.

They are offering following options if you have already purchased a Lumia 900:

• Update your device with the latest software via Zune on or around Monday, April 16th.
or
• Swap your current Lumia 900 for an updated Lumia 900

They apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused. As a gesture of good will, every individual who has already purchased a Nokia Lumia 900 — or who will purchase one between now and April 21stwill receive a $100 credit to their AT&T bill from Nokia.

Nokia Lumia 900 starts to sound a good deal for consumer who wants a smart phone.

Listen free music online

There are free and legal ways to listen music online. Here are the ways I have tried and found useful:

Grooveshark - listen music on a browser. No sign-up required. Best option if you don't want to pay. There are adverts visible on the internet page. My current favorite.

Spotify - listen music using downloadable client. Sign-up required. Free version has adverts and you can only listen 10 hours per month (I think this does not affect new accounts). Spotify is currently available in following countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Last.fm - Sign-up required. Free in UK, US, and Germany. People in other countries can listen 50 tracks free using Last.fm Radio.

Grooveshark is my favorite option of these three. It's free and there are no (at least yet) advertisements between tracks. By creating a free account you can save your own playlist. For the moment I have to say am very pleased with Grooveshark.

I have also used free (with adds) and unlimited (9,99€ / month) version of Spotify. Spotify Unlimited worked well and there were lot of tracks available. With Spotify Unlimited there is also option to install the client on your mobile phone (iPhone, Android, Symbian, Windows Phone, Palm and BlackBerry). The mobile version is useful if you want to listen music when you are away from your computer. It's also possible to use offline mode and listen music even when you are not online.

I might return to Spotify if Grooveshark service starts to get worse or if I need the features that Spotify Unlimited offers. If you want to pay and get best features I think the Spotify is the best option for you.
