The best R-rated comedies
I am a sucker for R-rated comedies. For some (most?) of the people these are probably too childlish but fortunately it seems that my mental age is just correct for the comedies. ;) Most of the comedies in the list are teen comedies. In the list are some of my favorites (there are probably some movies that I have seen and liked but forgot to add them to this list). Links are to amazon.com:
Knocked Up - They say that opposites attract. Well, for slacker Ben and career girl Alison , that's certainly the case - at least for one intoxicated evening. Two months and several pregnancy tests later, Ben and Alison go through a hysterically funny, anxious and heartwarming journey that leads to huge laughs in the most outrageous comedy of the year!
Wedding Crashers - In this hilarious box office hit, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson have perfected the art of wedding crashing but when one of them actually falls in love their sacred rule, "never leave a fellow crasher behind," may be broken!
Superbad - Seth and Evan want nothing more than to lose their virginity before they head off to college. To do that, though, they need to get liquor for the big party that night. With the help of their friend Fogell, a.k.a. McLovin, and his fake I.D., the three of them go on a hilarious chase for that elusive booze, dodging incompetent cops, angry neighbors and jealous boyfriends.
The Hangover - They planned a Vegas bachelor party that they would never forget. Now they really need to remember what exactly went down! What the guys did while partying can't compare to what they must do sober in an outrageous caper that has them piecing together all their bad decisions from the night before-- one hazy clue at a time.
The Hangover Part II - Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug travel to exotic Thailand for Stu's wedding. What could go wrong? Director Todd Phillips' explosively funny follow-up to his award-winning smash hit demonstrates that though what happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas, what happens in Bangkok can hardly be imagined!
Old School - Eager to relive their college glory days, aging misfits Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn, and Will Ferrell decide to turn their on-campus digs into a makeshift fraternity. The trio is soon hosting the hottest parties around, but when crusty dean Jeremy Piven threatens to put an end to the fun, the guys must choose between debauchery and maturity.
I Love You, Man - The story is pretty simple – making friends tends to get more and more challenging as we get older and more settled into our lives. That’s never been truer than for Peter Klaven, a so-called “Girlfriend Guy” who’s never really had a best guy friend.
Role Models - Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott star in this comic romp about two energy drink salesmen who wind up on the wrong side of the law. To stay out of jail, they agree to act as mentors to a pair of troubled kids. But setting an example for the younger generation may prove to be even tougher than prison.
She's Out of My League - In this outrageous comedy, Kirk, an average guy, can’t believe his luck when the successful and gorgeous babe Molly falls for him. His smart-ass friends, his crazy family, and even his obnoxious ex-girlfriend are just as shocked as he is.
Beerfest - After a humiliating false start in Germany's super-secret underground beer competition, America's unlikely team vows to risk life, limb and liver to dominate the ultimate chug-a-lug championship. The laughs are on the haus!
Adventureland - When James Brennan has to cancel his dream summer vacation and make some money for grad school, the only job he can get is at Adventureland, a tacky amusement park where the games are rigged and the rides make you hurl. But it's where he meets Em and his roller coaster ride to nowhere turns into the best summer ever.
The Girl Next Door - Raunchy teen sex comedy with a heart about a buttoned-down high school student (Emile Hirsch) who's driven to distraction by his new neighbor (Elisha Cuthbert), a nubile young woman who used to be a successful adult film star. As the unlikely pair begin to fall for each other, Hirsch finds his attempts to keep Cuthbert out of the industry marred by a pair of sleazy and determined porn producers.
Kick-Ass - “How come nobody’s ever tried to be a superhero?” When Dave Lizewski – ordinary New York teenager and rabid comic-book geek – dons a green-and-yellow Internet-bought wetsuit to become the no-nonsense vigilante Kick-Ass, he soon finds an answer to his own question: because it hurts.
Due Date - Due Date is such a broad comedy, it needs the width of the whole United States in which to play out. Downey is Peter, a straitlaced new father-to-be, who through an improbable series of unfortunate events can find no other way to get across the country for the birth of his first child than to hitch a ride with Ethan.
Zombieland - Nerdy college student Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) has survived the plague that has turned mankind into flesh-devouring zombies because he’s scared of just about everything. Gun-toting, Twinkie-loving Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) has no fears. Together, they are about to stare down their most horrifying challenge yet: each other’s company. Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin co-star in this double-hitting, head-smashing comedy.
Sex Drive - Itching to gain his first sexual experience, awkward 18-year-old Ian (Josh Zuckerman) jumps at a "sure thing" when an online partner offers to fulfill his fantasies. Ian steals his brother's car and takes to the road to meet her, with a portly pal (who's an unlikely chick magnet) and a platonic girlfriend in tow for a series of lewd misadventures.
I also like other movie genres but sometimes a wacky comedy can be the best thing. I think these comedies are perfect way to unwind. Just watch the movie and forget everything else for about one and half hours.
What are your favorite comedies or do you think that most comedies are not funny? I know that bad comedies can be one of the worst movie experience. That is why I listed these movies to give you an easy way to pick a good comedy. If you know a good R-rated comedy that is not listed here feel free to recommend it. There are never too many good comedies.
